Is there anyone in GTA willing to manage this webpage, answer emails and help coordinate the efforts around the city?

Active Groups

St. Marks United Church in Whitby has an active community group who meets every Wed from 1-3pm. They have already made over 300 mats!  They are weaving mats now and have 2 looms setup so that everyone is welcome to come by and give it a try.

Join us on Tuesdays! The Mad Mat Makers meet in the Heritage Room at 1:00 p.m.   We have already made over 60 sleeping mats with the help of our friends from Parkwoods, Glen Ayr, Lansing, and Donminster United Churches, as well as the youth from Senator O’Connor Catholic Secondary School.   Always looking for more friends.

School in East Toronto

We rolled out the collection initiative as a 'Me to We' global community project, so all the kids (450) are encouraged to bring in the washed milk bags.  The Ecoteam will then sort, cut and roll the balls.  I will then have a crocheting club at lunch to start creating the mats.  Sounds like a great thing to do now that the weather seem to be changing and we will want to be indoors some of our lunch hour.Really its a 3 for 1 with the school - environmental, global support, and a club for kids to learn a skill and have fun!
